______________________________________________________________________________

I studied English Linguistics, and I always thought "what would my future job be?". And here I am!!

I wanted to have a fun, light, easy going and not too hard to do job, but always wanted to be with people.

From all the many areas I could work in, I always wanted something neither too-much outdoors nor indoors, furthermore I wanted something that would produce some kind of social change, a good important and deep change.

In other matters, I wanted to travel, to see the world, to meet strange people, well... strange meaning, different than me and my friends and family. With teaching languages, I have been able to do all the former, which leads me to think it was the right choice.

I tried working in an office once, in a job that was not as stressful as a teacher's job but after a year, and after missing the classrooms a lot, I decided to go back to stressful, challenging but rewarding teaching.

Nowadays, I am thinking on taking up on PHD studies in the field of Applied Linguistics, I would like to do it either in the Netherlands, Switzerland and/or England.

I would like to do it in those countries, well, in the two first ones because they have a long history of successful multilingualism and because they are definitely good at languages. England on the other hand, would be my last choice, and this is because of a fact that gave birth to a joke, that is, - and please, no offense-, but the joke says: "how do you call a person who speaks only one language? […] you call them British"...LOL

RUSSIA:

Although money can be an issue, and going to distant places can be a broken dream before you start dreaming, I would anyway love to visit Russia. Because of many reasons, but mostly, because it is such a varied and colorful contry.
Russia has an incredible population,  they are 142.5 million people according to the statistics given by the UN in 2007. The number might seem scary, but don't worry! Density is low because of the country’s enormous size, in fact,  its geography is composed of more than 17 million square kilometres!
This huge land is the home of one of the most multi-ethnic nations in the world, and it is considered to be the world’s most diverse society – there are as many as 160 ethnic groups living there, i.e. 160 ways of viewing life, asian people, eurpeans, people from the arctic, etc!, and just the thought of all the traditions, cotumes, and folclore they have, makes crave for going ASAP!
Another of the reasons I would like to see Russia, it's its multi-lingualism, I mean,  being honest;  with that ammount of squared kilometres and ethnicities, you could not expect any less.
There more than 100 tongues spoken in all the country, and even though Russian is the official language, one can always learn a word or two in an incomprehensible, new-for-us language!, Furthermore, I find particularly interest the fact that when writing, the Russians use the Cyrilic Alphabet, and simply, no-one can say it is not a whole world to discover.
Apart from the above mentioned, I have real interest in taking a tour around the geography, and have a good time travelling Asia and Europe, but even more, I would just love to take a culinary tour, can you imagine the ammount of strange dishes one can find among all those ethnicities??
So far, I have had the chance of eating a couple of traditional russian dishes, they have both been very stimulating and a bit unknown for me, and since I have loved them, I am looking forward to eating them again in situ, and also, have a bite of everything I can, and I am sure that when money gets to be a friend of travelling, I will be sending you postcards from there.

See you in Russia!!!

VIDEO TASK #1. DUE TO: 10/06/2015

A SUBJECT YOU ENJOYED AT SCHOOL
Record a for 2 minute mobile phone video presentation* about a subject you enjoyed at school.  Say:
  1. What the subject was,
  2. Who taught it,
  3. Why you enjoyed it,
  4. What things you learnt in this subject.
  5. Mention anything else you think is important.

A mobile phone video presentation is a video of the student talking directly to the camera. This activity is seen as part of the learning process. Videos are made in the students’ own time and they are free to practice and record as many versions as they see fit in order to complete the task. However, the final video must be in one take (i.e. they must not be edited). Moreover, the professor must be able to see the student clearly in the video (i.e. No sunglasses!). If the professor thinks that the text is being read, s/he can arrange for the student to re-record it or repeat the talk in class.

Themed Post: My Favourite Recipe for Cooking on my Own.

Good day Everybody!, I hope you are enjoying the new season!

Autumn is a really pleasant time in the year, don't you think? ...Anyway, today's topic is...wel yah!...FREE!

Though...we have selected the topic of:

My Favourite Recipe for Cooking on my Own.

I have lived on my own for some good years so far and in most cases, catering, has been a daily issue to think over...specially when mom's not around!

I have always been related to the kitchen; my mum, as a child, would always say every person should know how to cook at least the minimum so as to survive in a good way. Considering also that I grew up in a time when big supermarket chains did not exist, a time when imported and/or processed food did not arrive and a time when cazuelas, humitas, porotos and several other, quite elaborate recipes, therefore....if you didn't cook, you couldn't eat.

Having grown around people cooking everywhere, it became natural to learn cooking methods, IO learnt the ways of chopping onion, how to cook it for different purposes, I also learnt about timing..well, I learnt this only after a time I bought a meat and cooked it on the grill but iy wasn't meant for it, but it was for cooking stews!!!

Anyway, nowadays, I live on my own, I have a demanding job (test to make, correct, handouts, bla bla bla) so with this lack of time and the need of eating healthy food, I like cooking my mom's sunday recipe:

Tuna Salad:

salpicón-de-atúnI open a Tuna can, I chop and wash lettuce (any kind, though I prefer iceberg lettuce), I chop onion and let it sit with salt for about 5-10 minutes, then it becomes softer. I wash it and get rid of the strength of its flavour and the salt. I mix everything in a big pot...To dress it, I add lemon juice, canola oil (or any oil), some good mayonaise and salt. Then, I eat it and go to work again. Well.... however, I still like taking time for cooking!

Blog Entry #4 : Childhood Series

Hi guys!

Today's blog session focuses on the free topic we chose as a class. You have to talk about the Series you used to love/hate in your Childhood. Below there is an example. Cheers!

Childhood Series

Believe it or not, when I was a child there weren't many series on TV, besides, I used to live in the 8th region, in a lost town in the middle of nowhere and we did not receive much technology nor state of the art cinema, theatre, cultural venues, etc.
It was the late 80's and national TV was the only option available, and consequently, the very limited programming they offered.
The series that you could see were quite classical, the typical Disney style, with Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and my favourite: Goofy.

I cannot tell you that I really remember their adventures on screen, because I was less than 5 years old, but I do remember having felt very proud after receiving positive appraisal from my parents when I was able to properly pronounce Goofy's spanish name, which was hard for someone mastering language in his early years.

As years went by, things changed in my life and in the country, and in the year 1995, there was a new service arriving into the region, it was CABLE TV!!!!!
The first couple of months, and since it was a real novelty, not many people seemed to have hired the service, and the channels were not all yet given in Spanish. It was then when I discovered Nickelodeon, and also Scooby Doo.
I remember I really Really REALLY loved not understanding it all but I was happy when I realized Scooby and his gang had solved a mystery, I was happy just by understanding even only the gist of the episode.

Later in my life, I changed my likes from cartoons to soap operas and series, series with human beings and with more adult-like topics. My favourite has always been Friends and Seinfeld, and still nowadays I prefer series rather than cartoon, although to be honest, after letting my self be stimulated by my current students, I am developing a crave for anime series and movies.
